Student Instructional Rating System

Our current instructional survey instrument (SIRS) will now be delivered online at the University of Memphis.  Piloted during summer 2006, the new system promises to deliver meaningful and secure data, and in the future, the ability to customize the instrument to best meet the needs of individual instructors and teaching modes.  The Faculty Senate and the Office of the Provost are working collaboratively to capitalize on the advantages of an online process.  Some of those are the following:

•  Faculty and administrators can receive the results much faster

•  Student confidentiality can be controlled to a greater degree

•  Data processing is more reliable

•  The high cost and effort of processing paper forms is eliminated

•  It provides flexibility allowing the development of menu-based forms suitable for varying teaching modes

2006 First Fall session evaluations are now open for your students enrolled in Fall 1 courses which end on October 13 th .  The online evaluation system for these students will stay open through October 12 th .  A high level of participation is desired in order to capture good and valid data. Please encourage student participation.

You may monitor the number of students who have completed the instrument for your courses by logging into the Spectrum portal and viewing "Faculty SIRS Monitor" channel under the newly implemented "Faculty" tab.

We encourage your continued input and advice, and will keep you informed on a regular basis throughout the fall semester on results and enhancement recommendations. Additional information about the SIRS system is available via the SIRS channels in the Spectrum portal as well as the All About SIRS webpage on the Provost Office website.
