Fourth Annual Induction and Mentoring Symposium

The fourth annual Induction and Mentoring Symposium sponsored by the New Teacher Center at the University of Memphis is scheduled for Friday, March 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fogelman Executive Center. The theme of the 2007 Symposium is “Closing the Achievement Gap in Our Nation’s Schools.” We have a lineup of outstanding experts who will provide information on promising practices that will enable school districts to improve student learning and close the achievement gap among various student groups. Speakers and workshop leaders will include:


Donna Ford, Betts Chair of Education and Human Development, Vanderbilt University
Pat Cooper, superintendent, McComb (MS) School District
Susan Copeland, director, University of Memphis Campus School
Rebecca Scott, assistant director, University of Memphis Campus School
Sharroky Hollie, assistant professor, California State University
Kathleen Cooter, outreach coordinator, New Teacher Center, University of Memphis
Helen Perkins, assistant professor of reading, University of Memphis
Robert Cooter, professor of urban literacy, University of Memphis
Beverly Cross, Moss Chair of Excellence in Urban Education, University of Memphis
Kandi Hill-Clarke, assistant professor of reading, University of Memphis
Leon Caldwell, associate professor, counseling psychology, University of Memphis.
