Internal Search for University Faculty Ombudsperson

The University is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Faculty Ombudsperson. As many of you know, the current occupant of this position, Dr. H. Graden Kirksey, is in the process of entering retirement. The Ombudsperson will serve in a half-time position with appropriate compensation and reduction in other responsibilities. A description of duties and qualifications for the position is attached.

Any tenured, full-time faculty member interested in applying for this position should send a formal letter of application to my attention at the Provost Office, 360 Administration Building. This letter should briefly explain why you are interested in this position and your qualifications for it. Your application should also include a copy of your curriculum vitae, including at least three references within the University (names, phone numbers and email addresses), and a completed Affirmative Action Form. A copy of the form is attached as a pdf file and can also be accessed at http://www.memphis.edu/pres w eb/affirmact/FEAA.pdf .

If you know someone you think would make a good Ombudsperson, please consider nominating that person. Simply send a letter of nomination to my attention at the Provost Office and the search committee will get in touch with your nominee.

All nominations and letters of application should be submitted by Monday, July 12, 2004.

I have appointed a search committee consisting of Elinor Grusin (chair), Candy Hill-Clark, James Chumney and Emin Babakus. The committee will examine all applications and nominations and make recommendations to me.

This is an important position and I would urge you to give serious consideration to applying or nominating someone for it.

Ralph Faudree
