Dr. William Jermann, professor of electrical and computer engineering Thomas W. Briggs Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award The 2005 Thomas W. Briggs Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award goes to Dr. William Jermann, professor of electrical and computer engineering. Dr. Jermann, who joined the Herff College of Engineering in 1967, is recognized by peers and students as a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher. The word “tireless” often is used to describe Dr. Jermann, wrote an alumnus in his nomination. “Somehow Dr. Jermann always found the right mix of seriousness and humor to hold our attention,” he wrote. “I never saw him tell a student he didn't have time to help with his or her coursework. Dr. Jermann would even go so far as to help students network with potential employers.” He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Detroit and a doctorate from the University of Connecticut.
