MUSIC AND THEATRE

Mission: to build strong, nationally recognized programs in music, theatre, and musical theatre that will serve both the educational and cultural needs of the community and support economic development of the regional music industry.

Rationale: to take advantage of the creative and entrepreneurial spirit that are central to the rich musical heritage of Memphis and the Mid-South and the strengths of existing music and theatre programs at the University of Memphis.

Role: the emphasis will be on performance across the broad range of music and theatre performance genre.

Key University Units: Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music and the Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Communication and Fine Arts.

External Funding: majority of funding comes from personal gifts and private foundations from the region.
