- Mission: to conduct research, educate students, and promote the use of advanced learning technologies in education and industry, for the Midsouth region and beyond.
- Tools: e-learning courseware, intelligent tutoring systems, instructional design, interactive multimedia, simulations, games, advanced learning environments.

- Central Units: Institute for Intelligence Systems, Department of Computer Science, Department of Psychology, Instructional Design and Technology Program, Advanced Instructional Media Lab, Center for Applied Psychological Research, FedEx Institute of Technology, Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Lab.
- Products produced on the Internet: AutoTutor : animated conversational agent simulating human tutorial dialog, Coh-Metrix: analyzes texts on over 200 measures of discourse cohesion and language, HURAA (Human Use Regulatory Affairs Advisor): interactive learning environment on research ethics, iSTART : animated agents training deeper reading strategies, QUAID (Question Understanding Aid): critiques questions on potential problems of understanding.
- External Funding: extensive funding from NSF, IES, DOD, and ONR (approximately $3 million per year). Presently have $20,000,000 grant proposal to NSF (with University of Southern California).
