Base Assumptions
  1. State contributions to higher education will remain relatively flat.
  2. Plans should focus on "reachable" goals, but can be reasonably ambitious.
  3. Everything should be evaluated; nothing is sacred.
Data Required for Review
  1. Catalogues of critical factors from each department.
    1. Administrative Overview
      1. Organization charts with employee names and titles
      2. Number of tenured, tenure-track faculty by classification.
      3. Number of one-year instructors (3-year history).
      4. Number of clinical faculty (3-year history).
      5. Number of part-time and adjunct faculty (3-year history).
      6. Number of graduate assistants (3-year history). (Please breakout TA's from RA's if possible.)
      7. Number and configuration of staff members (3-year history).
      8. Accreditation and/or Self-Study Reports.
    2. Budget Information
      1. Operating Budget
      2. Graduate Assistants' Budget
    3. Teaching
      1. Departmental teaching load criteria.
      2. Annual credit hour production.
      3. Number of majors (five-year history). Please use the fall numbers for the past five years, beginning with the current academic year.
      4. Number that graduate in major (five-year history). Please provide information for AY 1996-97 through AY 2000-2001.
      5. Number of graduate students (Masters and Ph.D.) Please provide information for AY 1996-97 through AY 2000-2001.
      6. Interdisciplinary interests.
      7. Evaluations of student success (e.g. job placements, earned advanced degrees, etc.)
    4. Scholarship
         
      1. Discipline-specific benchmarks, if any. Research Infrastructure; e.g, administrative support systems that are available to support the research effort.
      2. Annual research expenditures (external $) 3-year history.
      3. Papers in refereed journals, refereed conference publications, refereed book chapters, and patents - number of, and/or significance of.
      4. Books, monographs, and edited texts.
      5. Presentations - number of, and/or significance of.
      6. Other discipline-specific benchmarks.
      7. Primary external funding sources.
      8. Interdisciplinary interests.
    5. Community
         
      1. Catalog of ongoing relationships.
      2. Gifts or other forms of support (3-year history).
  2. Mission statements, goals and objectives of each department.
  3. Departmental analyses including:
    1. Proposed areas of focus including analyses of interdisciplinary approaches where possible
    2. Areas that might be de-emphasized or eliminated.
    3. Timelines for enhancement, de-emphasis, or elimination of programs.
  4. Other items to be added.
