The Provost is happy to announce that the Tennessee Board of Regents has approved establishment of the new Department of Earth Sciences. The Department includes the former Departments of Geography and Geological Sciences and the Center for Earthquake Research and Information. We hope that, in time, the faculty within each of these units will developinterdisciplinary approaches to the pedagogy and study of earth sciences with the express purposes of enhancing student experiences and promoting scholarship. Dr. Roy Van Arsdale has graciously agreed to serve as the interim department chair until a permanent chair can be selected.
