
TENNESSEE BOARD OF REGENTS GRADUATE MINORITY FELLOWSHIP

APPLICATION DEADLINE (including recommendations)
FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2005-2006
The funds for the Tennessee Board of Regents Graduate Minority Fellowship are made available to The University of Memphis by the State of Tennessee as a result of the court settlement in Geier vs. Sundquist. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide financial assistance to African American students in programs where African Americans are underrepresented. Continuation of this fellowship program is contingent upon state funding.
In order to be eligible to apply, students must be:
- African American
- Resident of Tennessee
- Fully admitted to a graduate program by February 28, 2005
Fellowship recipients must agree to the following:
- Not to hold both a Tennessee Board of Regents Graduate Minority Fellowship and a graduate assistantship at the same time.
- Not to be employed by The University of Memphis in any capacity while receiving this fellowship without prior written approval from the Vice Provost for Research or the Assistant Vice Provost for Graduate Studies (per U of M Procedure 1:2E:03:02).
- To enroll in at least 9 semester hours of graduate course work for the full-time option or 6 hours for the part-time option and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0 in order to be eligible to continue the fellowship.
Award Information:
- Full-Time Option (minimum of 9 hours per semester): Tuition scholarship plus a $6,000 stipend ($750 per month for four months each semester)
- Part-Time Option (6 hours per semester): Tuition scholarship plus a $1,000 stipend ($500 per semester)
- Award Period: The fellowship is awarded for two academic years contingent upon the student maintaining a 3.00 or higher grade point average.
- Summer Support: Summer support is contingent upon availability of funds and is not guaranteed.
In addition to the application, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, one of which should be academic. Letters should be sent by the recommender directly to the following address:

required documentation and the Graduate School Competitive Award Self-Application. Both applications are available in Administration 215.
